My name is Diana S. Taliaferro. I have been painting and writing as DSTaliaferro for the past decade.
The beauty of nature and its unseen worlds inspire me. I see in flowers and fauna the devas or elemental energies that create and inhabit them. These heavenly beings reach out from trees and fields of color. That’s why my paintings are filled with unexpected subtleties and exotic images that command a harder look.
Most of my paintings evolve from deep within my subconscious. With a few rifts and swirls of my pencil, an image begins to develop. My graphic line drawings establish the focus for my paintings, as I build in color, texture, and meaning to every canvas.
Pastels are the preferred medium for my fantasy art. Having enjoyed parallel careers as a jewelry designer and marketing communications executive, I love the challenge of translating my paintings into fashion and home décor accessories, using a broad spectrum of materials.
I have had several successful solo exhibitions and continue to exhibit in group and juried shows. My illustrated books and children’s stories highlight my love of art and concern for the environment.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in Spanish Education and Business Administration and studied fashion, textile, and jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and painting at the Corcoran School of Art.
